Farewell to our friend Jay Leno!
Farewell to our friend Jay Leno! I was happy to have played a small part in The Tonight Show legacy by creating the officially licensed Jay Leno Bobblehead.
I had designed the doll prior to having the licensing rights with NBC and had given a prototype to Mike Lacey, the owner of The Comedy and Magic Club, in Hermosa Beach, CA. Jay was performing that night, which is something that he had done nearly every Sunday, since the late 1980's. Jay would make the drive from his home in Beverly Hills, to the Strand, to test out new material and more importantly to see what worked and what didn't.
During the opening act, the waitress came by my table to tell me that Jay would like to meet me backstage in the green room. To say the least, it was a very exciting experience. I went backstage to meet Jay, he clowned around with me a bit, saying that the chin on his doll wasn't quite big enough and thanked me for the nice gift.
Shortly thereafter, I had gone to the corporate offices of NBC with another sample in-hand and more importantly, Jay's approval! I was granted a licensing deal with NBC back in 2009 and the Jay Leno Bobblehead was the first item that I produced for the network.
I have had a long-term partnership with NBC ever since, creating additional product for hit shows including; Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, Chuck, Community, The Biggest Loser and House to name a few.
I couldn't have done it without Jay's gracious hospitality that Sunday night at The Comedy and Magic Club and wanted to express my gratitude.
Thank you for all of the laughs Jay and best of luck on your future endeavors!
